If you live in or near Winnipeg, you're in luck... Northern Heart Designs is hosting a seven week course to teach you how to make your very own pair of mukluks.  Timed so you can have your new mukluks for the coming cold season!  If you've ever wanted to create your own now is the time - we'd love to guide your success!

Tell me more? We'd be happy to...

What: Northern Heart Designs will be teaching "How to Make Mukluks", live and in person.  If you are remote and unable to attend, please see our courses and kits section - you are able to participate virtually via your DIY kit with instruction and remote support!

When: Seven weekly sessions on your choice of Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 7pm to 10pm. Our first weekly sessions are available for the week of July 7th, 2026 and our final week of sessions will be the week of Sep 29, 2026. Very motivated individuals could complete this project in 5-6 weeks if they prefer.

Where: Under our market tent classroom space, 721 Parkhill St, Winnipeg.  This is an outdoor open air space where you can enjoy the fresh air while you work!

Investment: Total cost for materials, supplies and 7 weeks of in-class instruction to make your mukluks from start to finish (including mukluk making course manual) is $365 (less for Shorty or Mid-calf styles).  You may choose to confirm with a $185 deposit and the balance of $180 due prior to fourth class date (Aug 11th).  Like all things, you do get what you pay for - we use only premium hides and pelts... no cheap plate rabbit or pile lining etc, so only the best for our students as well.  Needles, threads, adhesives, backing material, thermal insulating fabric etc is all included.  You'll be provided with all the little extras that make our mukluks look and function the way they do ;).  For projects that include beadwork, like our Mukluks, students may choose to attend an additional evening during the week for focused beading time with support

What you'll learn:  Patterning for any size foot - not just provided with standard premade patterns than anyone can find online, but actually learn HOW to make the patterns so you're never limited.   You'll also learn beading (leather weave or leather applique if you prefer), how to properly handle and prepare all of the materials, sewing and construction - everything to make a complete pair of mukluks from start to finish (and be able to make more in the future should you wish).  As a bonus, you will gain the knowledge of how to craft some different styles and understand the basics of simpler projects like moccasins as well.  Covering the most weeks of instruction of all our classes, learning to make mukluks provides exposure to more knowledge/experience than any other class as well.  No experience required, just a willingness to learn and put in the time.

Make your choices and let your imagination soar!  At the end of this course, you'll walk out with your very own custom handmade pair of mukluks - no previous experience required!  Our students have a history of success and are able to create mukluks that look just like ours - anyone CAN do it!

You can choose to make either the Basic or Top-Bead Styles of mukluks - and for the first time, the Tiered Fur style is also an option (forewarned that this entails significantly more sewing time on the part of the maker)!  All the materials will be supplied based on your choices, if you choose a Shorty or Mid-calf style mukluks, there is a price reduction for your material costs adjustment.  You get to choose the colour for standard suede hide and rabbit fur.  Standard lining materials, sinew, threads, needles, adhesives, insole and exterior sole materials, grommets, laces etc are included. *If you wish to pay the additional cost of materials for things like different leathers or furs beyond the standards, you are welcome to (those options are available in the drop down menus).  Students will only be required to supply some simple personal use tools like scissors, needle nose plyers, ruler, pen, sharpie etc and their chosen beads (list supplied), unless you've chosen to use from our supply of beads.
